A beginner typing course, step by step

This beginner typing course teaches touch typing in ten connected stages. You start with posture and the two anchor keys, then add rows, capitals, numbers and symbols, and end by typing complete words, sentences and a paragraph.

It is free, needs no account, and every stage records real attempts so you can see your accuracy improve.

What you learn in the beginner course

The ten stages are posture and touch anchors, the home row, the top letter row, the bottom letter row, Shift and capital letters, the number row, punctuation and symbols, common words, complete sentences and a paragraph review.

  • Stage one sets your posture and finds F and J.
  • Stages two to four cover all three letter rows.
  • Stages five to seven add Shift, numbers and symbols.
  • Stages eight to ten turn separate reaches into fluent text.

How the course marks your progress

A lesson is complete at 95% accuracy. Mastery needs at least 98% accuracy plus the lesson speed target. Perfect scores are never required, and you can open a later lesson at any time.

Tips for learning to touch type

Rest your index fingers on F and J, keep your wrists neutral and use the assigned finger for every key. Look at the screen, not your hands, even when it feels slow. Go slowly enough to stay accurate, because speed builds naturally from clean movement.

After the beginner course

Take the 1-minute typing test to measure your new baseline, then move to English practice for fluency. Use weak-key practice whenever your results show a key or pair you keep missing.
