Free typing lessons and courses

Learning to type properly is about building a keyboard map in your hands, so your attention stays on the words instead of the keys. These free typing lessons take you through that map in a sensible order, from finger placement and the home row to capitals, numbers, symbols and full paragraphs.

Each lesson records real attempts, and reaching 95% accuracy marks it ready. Progress is saved on this device and syncs after sign-in.

Which typing course should you start with?

If you look at the keys or type with a few fingers, start with the beginner touch typing course. If you already type fairly well but make mistakes, use the accuracy builder. If you are accurate but slow, try steady speed, and if you type for study or work in English, use the English fluency route.

The order of the lessons

The beginner route begins with posture and the two anchor keys, F and J. It then covers the home row, the top row, the bottom row, capitals with Shift, numbers, symbols, common words, sentences and a paragraph review. Each step builds on the finger positions from the last.

How long does it take to learn to type?

Most beginners can learn the letter positions in a couple of weeks of short daily practice, and reach a comfortable everyday speed within a few weeks to a few months. It depends on how often you practise and how carefully. Consistency matters more than session length.

How to get the most from each lesson

Keep your wrists level, rest your index fingers on F and J, and keep your eyes on the screen. Aim for accuracy above 95% before you chase speed, and use the next-lesson link only when a step feels calm. You can open any lesson directly if you already know the basics.
